Objectives Of Chandarayaan-2

  1. The mission was launched on a Mark III Geostationary Satellite Rocket (GSLV Mk III) with an approximate take-off mass of 3,850 kg (8,490 pounds) from the Satish Dhawan space center on Sriharikota island.
  2. As of June 2019, the mission has an allocated cost of 978 Crores (Approximately $ 141 Million), including 603 Crores per space segment and 375 Crores as the cost of launching the GSLV Mk III. The Chandrayan-2 launch vehicle was initially launched into the near-Earth parking orbit with a length of 170 km and a climax of 40,400 km.

History Of Chandarayaan 2

On November 12, 2007, representatives of the Federal Space Agency of Russia (Roscosmos) and ISRO signed an agreement on the joint work of these two agencies on the Chandrayan-2 project. ISRO will be primarily responsible for the orbit and the rover, and Roscosmos had to provide the lander. The Government of India approved the mission at a meeting of the Union Cabinet on September 18, 2008, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The design of the spacecraft was completed in August 2009, when scientists from both countries conducted a joint review. Despite the fact that ISRO finally approved the payload for Chandrayan-2, the mission was postponed in January 2013 and postponed until 2016, as Russia was unable to timely develop the landing site.
Later, Roskosmos retired due to the failure of the Phobos-Grunt mission to Mars, since the technical aspects associated with the Phobos-Grunt mission were also used in lunar projects that needed to be reviewed. When Russia referred to its inability to provide a lander even by 2015, India decided to independently develop a lunar mission. The launch of the spacecraft was scheduled for March 2018, but was first postponed to April, and then to October for further testing of the spacecraft. On June 19, 2018, after the fourth meeting of the comprehensive technical review of the program, a series of changes in the configuration and landing sequence was planned, which led to the launch in the first half of 2019. The two legs of the lander suffered minor damage during one of the tests in February 2019.
